Egypt, Oman Demand Peace Talks Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

(MENAFN) In a phone call on Sunday, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said exchanged views on the escalating tensions in the Middle East, focusing particularly on Iran and Gaza.

The Egyptian leader warned about the dangerous consequences of the growing conflict between Israel and Iran, urging an immediate halt to the violence. According to an official statement from the Egyptian presidency, Sisi highlighted the urgent need to resume negotiations to prevent further loss of life.

He commended Oman’s mediation efforts between Iran and the United States and stressed the critical importance of reviving and strengthening diplomatic talks to protect the region from the devastation of war.

Sultan Haitham praised Egypt’s endeavors to quell the violence and reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to collaborative measures addressing the crisis, as noted in the statement.

Both leaders emphasized their shared goal of securing a ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring humanitarian aid reaches those suffering under what they described as "Israeli aggression."

They also reiterated their position that establishing an independent Palestinian state is essential for achieving long-term peace and stability in the Middle East.

Earlier on the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States had conducted strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

These U.S. operations followed Israel’s intensive air campaigns since June 13 targeting nuclear and military sites in Iran, which resulted in the deaths of multiple high-ranking commanders, nuclear scientists, and numerous civilians.

Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory. According to Iran’s Health Ministry, over 400 Iranians have died and more than 3,500 have been injured as of Saturday. Israeli officials report a death toll of 24.
